Way of life or MI
I was asked that last nite and I actually felt sooo confused and wasn't able to answer the dr?
She then explained the norm for people comes at different levels!
So is my son acting in front of the Drs or his being himself but choosing to lead a certain life style even tho it seems irrational and unreasonable to me!
I hope m making sense my son was admitted to hospital soooo emotional confused and very sad!

Re: Way of life or MI
Hi @Diamond
It might be those sorts of questions that you need to take up with medical support people, as in specialists.
In my experience, most GP's are wonderful, highly educated people, and they are a great starting point in recognising that something is wrong, and trying to diagnose what it is. Our situation demonstrates quite clearly though, that doctors can't be expected to know everything, and some things are flying so low under the radar that it is extremely difficult, or even close on impossible, for them to pick it up.
We have specialists for a reason. My husband's MI is associated with an eating disorder. I believe if he were in the care of an eating disorder specialists, aspects of his appearance, health record, attitude, focus, etc would have shown up like a flashing light long before now. The GP has just not been tuned into recognising the "hidden" symptoms. They are showing up progressively, because this is an illness that progresses.
It sounds like the dr you are speaking to is unsure of what he is dealing with, but specialised Drs would recognise a set of symptoms.
I'm sure it's scary in this moment. Just hand in there through the processes involved in sorting it out. The truth will eventually surface, as it will for us.
We are here on Carers Forum to talk to, and I am checking in on Hot Chocolate Anyone ? If I am awake during the night. Keep walking ... you will start to see the path.
Be brave. You can do this 💜🌷💜

Re: Way of life or MI
Wow what a tricky question @Diamond - I wouldn't know how to answer that!
I guess what I would hope for is that my loved one is living a life without distress. And emotionally aren't hurting and aren't hurting others. I guess I would also hope that my loved one had a connection... even with just one person that they feel safe with.
That would be the bare minimum for me..
It's such a good & tricky question though! Have you come to any conclusion after thinking about it more?

Re: Way of life or MI
A very intelligent young man (my son) with early psychosis has been able to find a good explanation to his somewhat irrational decisions/behaviors!
To a point where u actually doubt urself that u might b wrong or maybe not seeing it from his point of view!
But fortunately for myself and my son his in grt hands now! His been put on very mild medication and only few days into it and already tremendous change!
only the beginning but there is definitely that light that we are all looking for at the end of the tunnel!
It is a learning journey! Knowledge is the key to comfort, confidence and hope!
